New York City, THE Concrete Jungle!
After almost two full days of wandering and shopping in the city, we had the opportunity to have a private visit at the United Nations Headquarters. The UN is an organization aimed at maintaining security and peace in the world as well as better education (UNESCO) and helping children in need (UNICEF). visiting the UN HQ was on my bucket list because I wanted to see where the brains of the operation worked. Right when we stepped out of the bus, I was amazed by the look of the establishment; the flags of all 195 States (which two are Observer States) are arranged in alphabetical order all along the building from 42nd street to the 48th. We saw the General Assembly and the Trusteeship Council, and were able to ask the guide questions about the rooms. Furthermore, the guide deepened our knowledge of many historical events and current issues in the world, such as the Hiroshima bombing and the conflict in Palestine. It felt as if we were in the thick of it when walking around the halls and seeing the workers in action. Unfortunately, we were unable to see the Security Council room as we were promised prior to the visit since there had been an emergency meeting called. Overall, I greatly enjoyed this long w
eekend by spending quality time with my friends and checking the UN Headquarters off my bucket list!
